Project Story
Cork to the Clouds is a heartfelt 9-minute mini-documentary that traces the incredible journey of Barry Roche, a corporate helicopter pilot whose story begins in rural Ireland and takes flight in the United States. Through candid storytelling, archival photos, and carefully selected visuals, the film captures Barry’s humble beginnings, the pivotal opportunity that brought him to America, and the determination that fueled his aviation dreams.
The final piece was shaped during post-production, where I edited down 50 minutes of footage into a tight, narrative-driven 9-minute cut. Working in nested sequences by story segment helped streamline the process, while bin organization and color mattes enhanced clarity and design. Much of the originally planned B-roll was replaced with stock footage and supplementary photos to match the evolving emotional tone of the story.
While the project isn’t destined for broadcast, it stands as a meaningful keepsake for Barry and his family, something personal, crafted with care, and rich in storytelling.
