Project Story
This wasn’t your average Halloween project. In 2021, Sententia Gamification was preparing for their Game Garage event around Halloween, with a major moment coming up at the TechLearn conference where none other than the creator of The Walking Dead would be a guest speaker.
So, when they asked for two short promo videos, I pitched an idea with brains and a sense of humor: a comedic zombie character named DK (short for Decay), inspired by Marvel’s Korg from Thor: Ragnarök. The concept was approved, and from there… it got wonderfully weird.
To bring DK to life, I used a professional-grade “living mask” from The Scream Team, paired with SFX makeup. This part was especially meaningful; my teenage daughter jumped in as my special effects assistant. The two of us spent nearly two hours applying and blending the prosthetics, transforming me into a chatty undead game host.
We filmed the performance against a green screen, capturing two versions: a longer promo video and a 15-second bumper for the handoff to the live game master. Post-production was where the magic (and a little mayhem) happened. I used Premiere Pro and Audition CC for editing and audio work, and layered in stock footage and audio from Envato Elements. Sententia’s internal digital team added motion graphics and onscreen text.
The result? DK was a hit. The videos drew laughs, sparked curiosity, and helped drive up engagement for the event. It was a perfect mashup of storytelling, character design, collaboration, and a whole lot of makeup glue.

From mild-mannered mortal (left) to mid-metamorphosis monster (middle), and finally to DK in all his brain-loving glory (right); all crafted at home, on a shoestring budget, with a little SFX magic and a lot of zombie spirit.

DK to the Game Master
DK’s back, and clearly ready for his close-up. After making sure his hairpiece is apocalypse-ready, our favorite brain-connoisseur dares the audience to stop him: “So, you think you can stop me from eating brains? Let’s see…” With a dramatic flourish, he passes the reins to the Game Master… only to be abruptly cut off. Literally.
